I was fortunate enough to host a baby shower a couple of months ago. I used it as a way to stretch my creative legs...er..fingers. ;)
I went to my all-time favorite baking resource, bakeitpretty.com, to grab the essentials. I don't see the rubber ducky cupcake toppers anymore, but they are probably just out of stock right now.
There's always loads and loads of inspiration over there. :)
I made some super easy bunting by rummaging through my fabric stash and finding pink and blue fabrics. I think the bunting came off a little girly, but I don't think the mother minded at all.
The muffins were so yummy. I made a very simple walnut batter and for the "boy" cupcakes, I threw in some blueberries and put the batter into the blue cupcake liners and tinted homemade whipped cream pale blue and topped with a rubber ducky. The "girl" muffins had raspberries instead of blueberries and I topped them with a premade sugar flower and pink tinted whipped cream.I chose whipped cream instead of regular icing as I really wanted the berry flavors to stand out. Plus it was much easier. Anything to save myself a few grey hairs. ;)
I went with a loose tea party theme. It was very thrown together because I wanted it pretty but casual. This translates into: use whatever you have on hand and don't make it too complicated. ;)
The sugar cookies were a big hit. I was a little worried because these kinds of cookies are much sweeter than most Germans (I think) like to eat but everyone loved them and took the leftovers home so I was a happy girl.
The rubber duckies were, by far, my favorite part. They really helped to bring a little childish whimsy without being overly "babyish".
I hope to be able to do more parties in the future. I've done a few but always tend to forget to take photos. Sheesh.
