I am sooo inspired lately with ideas for the living room. There is one image, though, that I keep coming back to.
It haunts me...like a really good, amazing dream.
I believe it's from one of my anthro catalogs but it's ripped out so I'm only guessing...

Yesterday's post at PoppyTalk inspired me to just go for it and paint on the walls. I tend to be a bit rigid about stuff like that and I'm trying to let go. At first I had grandiose ideas of a mural or a really cool geometric pattern. In the end, though, simple won out.
Baby steps, people. Baby steps.
Oh and I love that you can tell which letter I did by hand. Nice.
I will admit that I like to make a good first impression. I like a perfect outfit, fabulous hair and a darn good ice-breaker.
You would never guess that from my foyer, though.
Upon first impression my foyer would let you in on a little secret. The only place where I'm all put together? You guessed it. Online.
So I'm making a real effort to get our house together. It's ridiculous. You'd think we'd have this whole "moving" thing down already. I mean...we do it every 2 years so what's the big deal, right? So, this time I am devoting a good chunk of my time to getting this house looking the way I want it to. I am really taking a close look at each room and listening to what it wants to say.
The foyer?
It says, "Let me do all zee ard work for you. Let me wow zem. Let zem love me."
Oui, the foyer is French. ;)
Yesterday while waiting for 1.2 gigs of our next Songbird kit to upload I tackled the hallway. I started and Colin jumped right in when he got home. We didn't stop til midnight (well, that's because we decided to do the stairwell and upstairs landing as well) and then we got up this morning, packed the kiddos off to school and I immediately started the second coat. I've missed a few spots, but it's coming together nicely. I'm paused now because we ran out of paint.
And this is the nook by the front door.
We took the house in an un-renovated condition so it's up to us to get it into shape. The walls in the foyer were a creamy beigey yellow and it gave the whole place a dingy look. I used to hate white walls but now I find them refreshing. I left this back wall of the nook unpainted because it's going to get slapped in the face with something fun...and orange.
And where the floor is taped off in the top photo? That's where I'm putting this baby.
It's the Besta bench from Ikea. I love that it has a slight sheen to it. We'll be re-purposing some artwork from around the house and we'll finally be incorporating my lovely coat hooks from anthropologie.
It looks all clean and spiffy right now but that's only because I've moved everything from the foyer into the living room.
Nice, huh?
I should probably get back to work...
Still working like crazy to get the Haiti kit put together. I always bite off more than I can chew but I'm happy to report that the kit is now uploading to the store and I will be able to hand it out to the Songbird Creative Team and the contributing designers as well later on today. It feels so good to have it finished and ready to go. Also trying to paint my office at the same time and well...let's just say it's getting kinda ridiculous around here and I've taken my multitasking to a whole new, unattainable level. ;)

Thanks for stopping by! :) I've been busy busy busy behind the scenes coordinating a charity kit for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. It's kind of taking up all my time, but it will be amazing when we're done. :) I hope you have a lovely day. :)
My parents left. It was really sad. The goodbyes weren't quite as teary and sad as we'd expected because we sent the kiddos off to school early in the morning and our morning routine is a little hectic and busy. I don't think the kids had time to really understand that when we got home, my parents wouldn't be here. We had a lovely week exploring this little part of Germany we call home and there were lots of snuggles and endless good food. My dad cooked his tush off making yummy Cajun and creole dishes and my mom, bless her heart, didn't stop cleaning my house. I am so grateful that our girls have such wonderful grandparents and I'm also grateful to my parents for taking a week out of their insanely busy work schedule to come and relax with us. We miss them so much and the girls can't wait til they get home so we can call them.
During our incredibly long settling in period here in Germany, we rented a furnished apartment for 7 weeks in Frankfurt West End. It was lovely, in a beautiful building and was in an incredible location near Grueneberg Park, Palmengarten, the Korean Garden and The Old Opera House. We love Frankfurt and It was nice to be able to go downtown so easily and get to know the city really well. I feel really comfortable there now and can't wait to get back there every other weekend or so. We're not apartment people, though, so we felt a bit out of place. We like to stay up late, we're loud and we love having a garden. And even though the apartment was very nice, we were ready to move into our house. :) I thought I'd snap some photos of it, though, so we could remember the place we lived in the shortest. :)
This apartment also gave me new found love for white walls and sparse surroundings. After living here and then getting all our massive amounts of junk and stuff, it made me want to pare down our belongings and take greater care about what we bring into this house. I can't wait to really get decorating and get this house looking the way it really want it to. I know it will take time, but it's an undertaking I am very excited about.
I'd mentioned before that I wanted to try Project 365 this year. :) I had also loosely thought about doing 1 photo a week, but this seemed like too few to me.
Anyone who's read any of my posts knows that I am not a daily kind of blogger. Nor am I a daily kind of photographer. So, how do I combine the two?
I came up with a solution that suits me to a T and I wanted to share it with those of you who might be considering the project. We're only 1 week into the new year, so you can still catch up OR you can just start from right now. :)
My solution? I will not force myself to take a photo every day. Instead, at the end of the week, I will choose my 7 favorites and then post those. It has really helped me take the stress out of this challenge. And yes, I view Project 365 as a challenge. Some people are more diligent and self-motivated than others. Not me. I need lots of encouragement and I have to talk myself into doing most things. I weigh every project in my mind and I only set out to do those that I truly believe I can make time for.
So, in honor of the first week of 2010, here are my favorite images. I will try to post these every Friday. :)

I am really happy with the way these turned out. I decided to give my photos a bit of a vintage/faded wash to help them all blend well together.
Next up? Trying to come up with a way to get these into an album. This has really got me inspired. But who doesn't she inspire? ;)
